BUSA5208O – Entrepreneurship (10 credits)
This course is designed for students to capitalise on their own entrepreneurial potential and develop entrepreneurial behaviours and start-ups. This module is focused on creating and disseminating higher-level entrepreneurial knowledge and skills which translate into venture creation and entrepreneurial capacity building. Students navigate the entrepreneurial process conceptually and practically as a way of building entrepreneurial skills and behaviour in a variety of contexts. Entrepreneurial concepts, models and theories are employed to provide an integrated approach towards new venture creation.
BUSA5207O – People Management (10 credits)
This course examines the aspect of people management within the South African context, and takes into account the complexity of a changing business environment in an emerging market economy. A particular emphasis is placed on critical engagement of the socio-psychological elements of human performance in organisations. In addition, students are made aware of the ethical and responsible elements of good people management. Topics to be covered include: Introduction to People Management, Global Talent Management, Selection, Training & Development and Succession Management, Performance Management, The Human Resource Practitioner as a Business Partner, and Employee Relations.
BUSA5205O – Business Law (15 credits)
The course is intended to provide the candidate with a basic introduction to the elements of Commercial Law as it pertains to doing business in South Africa and Africa. It is intended that this course will capture the imagination of the candidates and cultivate a deepened respect and interest in the practicality and applicability of law to all aspects of business.
BUSA5200O – Critical Business Skills (15 credits)
This course will teach students the principle business skills required to operate within a professional business environment. These include high level written and oral communication skills, project management skills, quantitative/numeracy skills, and team work.
BUSA5206O – Marketing and Sales (10 credits)
This course is designed to develop an in-depth understanding of a market-driven organisation, the new marketing process and the development of a marketing plan. In addition the course will focus on the use of marketing techniques and the management of marketing resources to create, deliver and communicate superior value to customers.
